27_09_2010 – Bali Agoes’s house and his favourite sate warung

Today we went to Agoes’s house which is just about to be consumed by a McDonalds franchise that is going on a block of land adjacent to his lane.

We went to the bird market (Pasar Burung) in Denpasar and from there came back to Sesetan before going by bike into work at Kuta.  On the way Agoes stopped off at his favourite sate place and we had lunch.

25_09_2010 – Canggu Marriage Ceremony

One of the main reasons we were in Bali for this visit was to meet up with Kiri’s mum and dad and attend a friend’s marriage ceremony.

The marriage ceremony was in Canggu and we were scheduled to be picked up from Seminyak by a bus that would take us there.  Typically, the bus didn’t show and after about half an hour of standing in heavy diesel fumes (as we were standing by the side of Jl Legian) we decided to jump in a cab and get there ourselves.

The cab driver(s) got lost and a few texts later we were there.  “There” was  a villa that had been rented for the weekend where the ceremony was going to take place.  Complete with multistorey villa, pool, bar, gardens and temple.

After the ceremony we had dinner by the beach.  Dinner was seafood roasted over coals.  This is one of my favourite things in Asia and did not disappoint.  I will be going back, if i could possibly remember how to get there…

24_09_2010 – Bali Sanur – Mak Beng

In Sanur at the end of a street at the far north (Jl Hang Tuah), there is a local establishment that is packed everyday.  They basically only have one thing on the menu – grilled fish.  Apparently the chilli sauce recipe is a closely guarded secret and is highly sought by all in the industry.

24_09_2010 – Bali Kuta seafront

Today we moved from Ubud back to Kuta.  We are staying at Kuta Seaview cottage on the beachfront (Jl Pantai Kuta).

A nice bar is at the front of the cottages called Rosso Vivo lounge and we watched the traffic going past before heading over the road about 10m to watch the sunset.

22_09_2010 Bali – Ubud Komaneka Bisma and Mozaic Restaurant

As we had some contacts in the travel industry we got a helpful hint with Komaneka Bisma in Ubud.  What an amazing resort and great to just get away from it all, I’ll let the pictures explain.

We had one really nice night out at Mozaic Bali.  A top quality restaurant with a french slant and a serious wine list (with awards to match)

19_09_2010 Bali – Ketupat Restaurant (Kuta)

Having been to Bali many times, I had always wanted to try Ketupat but had just never made it.  This time we made a special visit and we took Kiri’s family.  The food was good although there were a few negative indicators present: the menu was quite large and it was very quiet.  I would recommend it.

19_09_2010 Bali – Karma Kandara, Bukit

It just so happened that the same time we were in Bali so were Wal and Gee (DJ Habebe and Baby Gee) from LNA.  They were booked for a beach party on the Bukit and were playing in a swanky beach resort – including its own inclinator to get you down the steep cliff to the beach.   When we – Clif and I – arrived, we walked past an infinity pool with a view straight over the Indian Ocean (see above).

The LNA boys played a for a few hours to a pretty chilled beach crowd.  But things were starting to heat up a bit when we left and a party was developing with a few famous rugby union players.  This sunset pic doesn’t even do just to the location..
