Hooked up with Jarmin and Caleb after an awful flight to Perth.
After reading last month’s GT Wine magazine, I found out that Perth is home to this year’s winner of Best Wine Bar in Australia.
It is an area of Perth named Highgate that reminds of Surrey Hills in Sydney. Lots of funky little places to cruise around to all serving (what look like) quality menus.
We walked in and ordered a few snacks and had some fun with the wine:
- Petaluma 09 Riesling – we all tried this and was great, citrus, floral and good acid
- Villa Antinori – Super Tuscan blend
- A french Rhone blend with dominant grenache
- Garnacha Tintorero from southeastern Spain – forget exact details but big dark old world wine with sourness aplenty
- A Heathcote (Vic) Merlot
Also ordered a charcuterie platter and some frites with bearnaise. Service at the bar was good and knowledgeable.
Would recommend for a drink and would like to go there with friends who know wine for a serious dinner!
